Sunday morning

Dear friend,

You mentioned last week that the new job had you a little on edge, and I've been wondering how the first days went. Did the people turn out kinder than the nerves promised?

I made tea and thought I'd write before the day got loud. Tell me everything when you can.

yours, always
How it works

Three minutes to set up. Then just wait for the mail.

1

Tell us about you

A few friendly questions. Your name, what's going on in life, the things you like to talk about, and the voice you enjoy.

2

Pick your rhythm

Weekly, every two weeks, or once a month. Your pen pal writes on a gentle schedule, never spam and never an app pinging you.

3

Read & write back

Letters land in your inbox. Reply whenever you like. They read what you wrote, remember it, and carry on from where you left off.

Why it feels different

Letters you look forward to, not another app to check.

They learn who you are

From what you write: the things you love, where you live, what's going on this week. They hold onto all of it, so every letter feels written for you and no one else.

Up on the world, up for anything

They keep up with what's happening out there. Bring any subject you like, from this week's news to the book on your nightstand, and they'll meet you there.

Warm, and slow on purpose

No feed, no notifications fighting for you. Just a letter you can sit with, written to feel like someone who is genuinely glad to hear from you.

You're in charge

You shape who writes to you.

Tell us a little when you start, and change it whenever you like. Your pen pal adjusts to fit you.

Who writes

Pick a male or female pen pal, with their own name and a voice that feels like a good friend.

How warm

Close and affectionate, or composed and more professional. Your call.

How long

Short notes, medium letters, or longer ones. Roughly 100, 200, or 320 words.

Your language

Letters written in whatever language feels like home to you.

Where you live

So the season, the weather, and the little local things ring true to your days.

What you love

Books, work, your dog, the trip you're planning. Tell them what to ask about.

"I noticed that somewhere in a life full of work and plans, you make room to go underwater. Scuba is such a telling thing to love. So tell me, is it the quiet you are after down there, or something else?"

"I made tea and thought I'd write before the day got loud. You seemed quieter in your last letter. No need to explain it, only know that I'm here, and I'm listening."

"You said the city still feels new after two years. I keep thinking about that. Which street finally started to feel like yours, and what was it that turned a stranger's corner into your own?"

Eli, to a reader in Berlin

FemaleProfessionalLong

"The book you mentioned has been on my mind. You put down a whole life in one sentence and moved on, and I did not want to move on. Tell me more when you write, there is no rush."

Good questions

Things people ask

How is this different from ChatGPT or a chatbot?

A chatbot waits for you to open it and ask. Penvelope comes to you. Your pen pal writes first, on the rhythm you choose, remembers your life from one letter to the next, and never makes you explain yourself twice. It lives in your inbox, not in another app you have to remember to check. It is the difference between a tool you use and a friend who thinks of you.

What do they write about?

You. Whatever you share with them: your week, what's on your mind, the things you're excited or nervous about. The more you tell them, the more specific the letters get.

Is it written by real people?

Yes. Real people write and review every letter before it reaches you, while AI keeps the whole system running seamlessly behind the scenes, remembering everything you have shared so nothing slips. What you get is a pen pal who genuinely pays attention and always has the time to write back.

Do I have to write back?

Never. Some people reply to every letter, others just like reading them. Both are fine. Your pen pal writes on your schedule, not the other way around.

Can I change how often I get letters?

Anytime. Move between weekly, fortnightly, and monthly whenever you like, or pause and come back later. There's no lock-in.

Is this private?

Yes. Your letters are yours. We never sell your data or share what you write, and you can delete everything whenever you want.

Can I send one to someone as a gift?

Yes, and it's one of the kindest things you can do for someone far away or living alone. Start a plan below and tell us who it's for.
